Short answer: toast the tip slowly until it glows evenly, take short, gentle draws, and give it time between pulls. A hash hole burns slower and looks different from a regular pre-roll, so go easy, pace yourself and relight as needed.
A hash hole is a pre-roll with a column of hash running through the center. That core changes how it lights, how it burns and how fast you should go. If you want the background on what it is and how it's made, start with our explainer, What Is a Hash Hole? This post is the hands-on part. It's for adults 21+ who have a hash hole in hand and want to get it right the first time.
Before you light up
Know what's in the cone. Our 2g Diamond-Infused THCA Hash Hole is diamond infused and hash injected, and it contains hemp-derived delta-8 THC in addition to THCA. Our 2g Diamond-Infused THCP Hash Hole is a THC-P product, and THC-P is reported to be potent. Check the batch COA on our lab results page for the full cannabinoid profile before you start. A few quick setup tips:
- Use a steady flame. A torch lighter or a hemp wick gives you more control than a weak disposable lighter.
- Pick a calm spot with no wind. Drafts cause uneven burning, and uneven burning is the enemy here.
- Have an ashtray ready. You'll likely set it down and pick it back up more than once.
- Plan for time. A 2g hash hole is not a quick smoke.
Toast the tip first
Don't jam the flame into the end and suck hard. That's how you get a canoe, where one side runs ahead of the other. Instead, toast it.
- Hold the pre-roll level and rotate it slowly.
- Keep the flame just under the tip, not touching it, so the heat warms the paper and flower edge.
- Keep turning until the whole rim is dark and starts to glow evenly.
- Only then take a light first pull while you keep rotating.
The goal is an even ring of ember all the way around. The hash core sits in the middle, so the outer flower needs to be burning steadily before the center catches.
Slow, gentle draws
This is the biggest tip. Take short, soft pulls. Hard, long draws overheat the tip, make the burn run and can make the smoke harsh. Think sips, not gulps.
A good rhythm for many people is a small pull, a pause, then exhale. Let the cherry settle between hits. If you're a first-timer, or trying the THC-P version, one or two small draws and a real break is a smart way to start. Everyone responds differently, so start low and go slow.
Why the burn looks different
If you've only smoked classic pre-rolls, a hash hole can look odd. That's normal. Here's what you may notice:
| What you see | Why it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A slower burn | The dense hash core burns slower than the flower around it. | Relax. Take your time. |
| A dark or bubbling spot in the center | The hash softens and melts as it heats. | Normal. Keep drawing gently. |
| Oily or darker ash | Hash and diamond infusion leave more residue than plain flower. | Tap lightly. Don't pick at the tip. |
| One side running | Uneven lighting, wind or hard pulls. | Touch the flame to the slow side only, or let it self-correct with gentle draws. |
| Goes out often | Long pauses let the dense core cool. | Relight with a quick, gentle toast. |
A hash hole isn't going to look like a picture-perfect burn every time. What matters is that it stays even enough to smoke comfortably.
Pacing yourself
A 2g hash hole holds a lot of material. Most people don't finish one in a single go, and there's no reason to. Some tips:
- Share it with other adults, or plan to smoke part of it now and part later.
- Wait a while after your first few draws before deciding on more. Effects vary by person and aren't guaranteed either way.
- Stay hydrated and don't mix with alcohol.
- Don't drive or operate machinery.
If you want to compare this format with others, our post on THC-P or THCA, which to try first covers where a hash hole fits for newcomers.
Putting it out and relighting
Don't grind it hard in the ashtray. That crushes the tip and wastes material. Instead:
- Gently tap off loose ash.
- Rest the lit end against the ashtray or snuff it lightly until the ember stops.
- Let it cool fully before you put it away.
- Store the rest in its tube or an airtight container, away from heat and light. See how to store pre-rolls and flower for more.
To relight, knock off any charred edge, then toast the tip again the same way you did at the start. A relight tastes a bit stronger than a fresh light. That's expected.
Where hash holes can ship
Our THCA hash holes contain delta-8 THC and are not available in Texas. All THC-P products, including the THC-P hash hole, are also not available in those states. Other states vary, so check yours. Federal hemp rules change on November 12 and December 11, 2026, which may affect this category. Our 2026 hemp deadlines post has the details. This is general information, not legal advice.
FAQ
How do I light a hash hole evenly?
Toast the tip by holding the flame just below it and rotating slowly until the whole rim glows. Then take a light first draw while you keep turning.
Why does my hash hole keep going out?
The hash core is dense and cools off during long pauses. A quick, gentle toast brings it back. That's normal for this format.
How hard should I pull?
Gently. Short, soft draws keep the burn even and the smoke smoother. Hard pulls tend to make one side run.
Do I need to finish it in one sitting?
No. Put it out gently, let it cool and store it sealed. Relight it later with a fresh toast.
Do Totally Baked hash holes contain delta-8?
Our THCA hash hole contains hemp-derived delta-8 THC in addition to THCA. Check each batch COA for the full cannabinoid profile, including on THC-P products.
The fine print. For adults 21+ only. Hemp-derived products under 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight, lab-tested every batch (see our lab results). Our THCa flower, pre-rolls, diamond-infused pre-rolls and Sno Caps can ship to Texas and Florida for personal use only, not for resale. THCa hash holes and all THC-P products can ship to Florida for personal use only but are not available in Texas. Federal hemp rules change on November 12 and December 11, 2026, so catalog and availability may change; see the 2026 Hemp Deadline Tracker.
